  • Lokahi~ Teamwork. It takes working together in unity to be successful & happy ohana (family).  Pay attention & respect your hula sisters and brothers ...their needs, strengths, and weaknesses.  Encourage and build each other up. No negativity & attitudes in class.

  • Malama~Taking care of each other & the hula. Be aware of the needs of each other. Aloha your hula ohana and help each other. Be positive and encouraging. Be respectful to Kumu and others at all times. Malama the hula with honor and respect. Remember the struggle and oppression the hula has went through in our culture. It is our duty to care for the traditions of hula & pass them on to others.

  • Kuleana~Responsibility to Kumu, halau, & self. Set a good example to others, especially to the younger keiki. Carry on Hawaiian traditions and do our best to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture. Practice your hula songs at home, with each other, & do your homework about mele (songs) & hula (dance)...so we can move along comfortably.

  • Ha'aha'a~Be humble, acting with dignity & humility. Hula is not a competition. We are always learning. When you are wrong admit your mistakes. Know that hula takes many years to master and learn. Please No bullying or picking on others.

  • Nana I Ke Kumu~ Source of Spirit. Find your sense of place and truth. Hula has always been spiritual since the beginning of the first movement. Whether it was the worship of Laka (goddess of Hula) or the movement into Christianity with giving mahalo to ke Akua. Haumana find a relationship between mele and hula, the mana of the place we dance, the aloha with each other in halau, or the pule we offer before hula. Find your sense of place in hula with spirituality.
